Privacy Policy
1. Summary
Cast to TV shows your Android phone's screen and sound on a Google Cast-enabled TV over your local Wi-Fi network. Your screen and sound go straight from your phone to your TV. We never see them, and they are not stored on any server. The free version shows ads from Google AdMob; Pro removes them (section 5A).
You can try your first cast without an account. After that, the app asks you to sign in with Google. If you sign in, we receive your Google account name, email address, profile picture link, and a unique user ID, and we keep a small account record (section 3). The app also counts usage anonymously, with your consent where the law of your region requires it (section 6). You can delete your account at any time (section 9).
2. Screen and sound
- Each time you start mirroring, Android asks you to confirm screen capture. Android shows an indicator while capture is active, and the app shows a notification with a Stop button.
- The screen image and, if you allow it, your phone's internal playback sound are sent from your phone to your TV over your local Wi-Fi network.
- This content is not sent to our servers, is not stored by us, and is not shared with anyone. It is not included in the account record or in the usage statistics.
3. What we collect
A. Your account (only if you sign in with Google).
| Data | Where it is kept | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Google account name, email address, and profile picture link | Firebase Authentication only. We do not copy them into our own database. | Sign you in, show which account is signed in, and answer support or deletion requests |
| User ID (UID) | Firebase Authentication and the account record below | Identify your account |
| Account record: sign-up date, last-used date, plan (free or Pro), country (from your phone's region setting, not your location), app version, phone model | Cloud Firestore, in the Seoul region. Only your own signed-in account can read or write your record. | Run the account, understand how many people use the app, and fix problems on specific app versions or phones |
Before you sign in, the app does not create any account. It only stores a flag on your phone that your first cast has been used. Nothing from your first cast is linked to your account later. (The random install identifier used for anonymous statistics, described in section 3B, is separate from your account and is never joined with it.)
B. Anonymous usage statistics. We use Google's Firebase Analytics to count how the app is used and to fix connection problems. We do not attach your name, email, or user ID to these statistics.
| Data | Examples | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Event names and event details | App opened, sign-in succeeded, intro tour started or finished or skipped, device search found or not found, mirroring started or ended and why, connection failed (reason code), Wi-Fi lost, photo or video or audio cast, Pro screen viewed, purchase result (success, cancel, pending, error) | Find and fix connection and purchase problems; improve the first-run experience |
| Connection conditions | Whether the phone is on Wi-Fi or mobile data, whether a VPN is on, Wi-Fi band (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz), time to find a TV, session length range | Improve the connection helper |
| App version | Version number | Compare versions |
| Device model and OS version | Phone model, Android version | Find device-specific problems |
| Country | Approximate country | Understand where the app is used |
| Random install identifier | An app-instance ID generated by the Firebase SDK for each installation | Count unique installs and retention |
C. Payments. Purchases are processed by Google Play. We do not receive or store your card or payment details. We learn only whether Pro is unlocked, through Google Play Billing.
We do not collect: screen content, sound content, TV names, Wi-Fi network names, IP addresses in our own records, contacts, photos, files, or precise location. Ads shown in the free version collect data through Google AdMob, including your advertising ID; see section 5A. Google signals in analytics are turned off.
4. Permissions
- Screen capture: a system dialog you approve each time, to capture the screen you choose to show on your TV.
- Sound (microphone permission, RECORD_AUDIO): only if you choose to cast the phone's sound. It captures the phone's internal playback sound so it can play on your TV; it is not recorded and not sent to us. The app does not record from the microphone.
- Network, Wi-Fi state, change network state, and internet: to find your TV on your local network, keep the Wi-Fi link while casting, sign you in, keep your account record, send the statistics described above, and process purchases through Google Play.
- Notifications and foreground service: to keep a visible notice while casting runs and let you stop it.
- Keep awake (WAKE_LOCK): to stop the phone sleeping mid-cast.
- Google Play billing: for the Pro purchase.
- Fingerprint/biometric and install-referrer access: added by Google libraries (sign-in, Play services). The app does not use them for its own features. The advertising ID permission (AD_ID) is requested for ads in the free version (section 5A).
5. Who processes your data
We use Google LLC as our service provider (processor) for the following Firebase services. Google processes this data on our behalf to provide the app.
| Service | What it handles | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Firebase Authentication | Google sign-in, name, email, profile picture link, UID | Google-operated infrastructure (see Firebase privacy information below) |
| Cloud Firestore | The account record in section 3A | Seoul, South Korea (asia-northeast3) |
| Google Analytics for Firebase | The anonymous statistics in section 3B | Google-operated infrastructure (see Firebase privacy information below) |
| Google AdMob | Ads in the free version: advertising ID, IP address, ad interactions, diagnostics (section 5A) | Google-operated infrastructure |
See Google's Privacy Policy and Firebase privacy information. Google Play processes payments under Google's own terms. We do not sell your data. The only data shared for advertising is what the ad service collects in the free version (section 5A). Your TV and Google Cast services are controlled by Google and your TV maker.
5A. Advertising (free version)
The free version of Cast to TV shows ads. Ads are served by Google AdMob (Google LLC). Pro, a one-time purchase through Google Play, removes ads permanently, and with Pro the app shows no ads.
- Where ads appear: a banner at the bottom of screens other than the mirroring screen; a short video ad before mirroring or media playback starts or resumes, which you choose to watch on the start sheet; and, in some sessions, a full-screen ad after you stop mirroring (up to 3 times a day). There are no ads while you mirror, on your TV, or on the purchase screen.
- What the ad service collects: to show and measure ads and to prevent fraud, Google's ad software in the app automatically collects and shares with Google: your IP address (which can indicate a general location), your Android advertising ID and other device identifiers, how you interact with ads and the app (such as taps and views), and diagnostic information about the ad software. The app does not give Google your name, email, or account record for ads.
- Personalized or not: where you agree, ads may be personalized using your advertising ID. If you do not agree, or where consent is required and not given, ads are non-personalized and are not based on your advertising ID profile. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of ad personalization, in your Android settings.
- European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland: before ads are requested, the app shows a consent form (Google's User Messaging Platform). You can accept, decline, or manage your choices. Change or withdraw your choice at any time in the app under Help & settings (ad privacy choices). Without consent, no personalized ads are shown.
- Not for children: the app is not directed to children, and ads are not meant for users under 13.
- More about Google ads: How Google uses data for advertising, How Google uses data when you use partner apps, and Google My Ad Center. Google works with ad technology providers listed by Google; see the AdMob ad technology providers page. Google acts under its own privacy policy for ad data.
6. Consent and your choices
- Signing in is needed to provide the account features, so it is not optional after your first cast. If you do not want an account, you can stop using the app.
- Usage statistics in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland: statistics are off by default. A checkbox, unchecked by default, asks whether you want to share them. The app works the same either way.
- Ads: in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland the app asks for your consent before showing ads (section 5A). Everywhere else, you can opt out of ad personalization in your Android settings, and you can remove ads with Pro.
- Everywhere else: statistics are on by default and carry no personal identifiers as described above. You can turn them off at any time.
- Change or withdraw your choice at any time in the app under Help & settings. Withdrawing stops new statistics from being collected.
Region is decided from your phone's settings, not from precise location.
7. Protected content
Cast to TV does not bypass content protection (DRM). Apps such as Netflix may show a black screen on your TV while mirroring. Use that app's own Cast button instead.
8. Children
Cast to TV is not directed to children and is not designed for them. Please do not use it if you are under 13, or under the age required in your country. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Retention, deletion, and your rights
- We keep no screen or sound data, so there is none to delete.
- Account data (Google account name, email, and profile picture link in Firebase Authentication, UID, and the account record) is kept until you delete your account.
- Anonymous statistics: event data is kept for 2 months. User-level analytics data (such as the random install identifier) is kept by Firebase for up to 14 months and the period restarts when the app is used again. Because these statistics are not linked to your name, email, or user ID, they cannot be looked up by account.
- Your rights: you can see the name and email shown for your account in the app, and you can ask us what we hold about you or ask for a copy by email. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under local law; contact us to use them.
- Delete your account in the app: Help & settings > Account > Delete account. Your sign-in account and your account record are deleted immediately.
- Delete your account without the app (for example, if you uninstalled it): use our account deletion page, or email us at the support address from the address you used to sign up. We process requests within 30 days.
- Purchases: Google Play keeps your purchase records under its own policy. Pro (which removes ads) belongs to the Google Play account that bought it, so deleting your Cast to TV account does not refund or remove the Google Play purchase.
- Uninstalling the app removes the app's data from your phone but does not delete your account. Delete the account first if you want it removed.
10. Security
Screen and sound travel on your local network, between your phone and your TV. We cannot control the security of your Wi-Fi network, so please use a network you trust. Sign-in, account records, statistics, and ad requests are sent to Google over an encrypted connection. Our database rules allow each signed-in user to read and write only their own record. No method of storage or transfer is perfectly secure.
11. Changes
If we change this policy, we will post the new version on this page and update the revision date. If we start collecting anything new, we will say so here before the change applies.
