Privacy Policy
1. Summary
FitGIF turns a video you choose into a GIF that fits a size you pick. The video is processed on your phone. It is not uploaded to our servers, and we never see it. There is no account and no sign-in, and we do not ask for your name or email. The free version shows ads from Google AdMob; Pro removes them (section 5). The app also counts usage anonymously, with your consent where the law of your region requires it (section 6).
2. Your videos and GIFs
- You pick a video with the Android Photo Picker. The app can read only the video you select. It does not get access to your whole photo library, and it does not ask for a storage permission.
- The video is converted into a GIF on your phone. Nothing from the video is sent to our servers or shared with us.
- While converting, the app writes temporary working files to its own cache on your phone and cleans them up afterwards. Uninstalling the app also removes the app cache.
- The finished GIF is saved to your gallery in Pictures/FitGIF. You decide whether to keep, share, or delete it. If you share it, it goes to the app you choose, under that app's own terms and privacy policy.
3. What we collect
A. Anonymous usage statistics. We use Google's Firebase Analytics to count how the app is used and to fix problems. We do not attach a name, email, or user ID to these statistics, because the app has none.
| Data | Examples | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| App interactions (event names and details) | App opened, a GIF was created or failed (reason code), a GIF was saved or shared, an ad prompt was shown, watched, or skipped, Pro screen viewed, purchase result (success, cancel, pending, error) | Find and fix problems; improve the app |
| Diagnostics | Basic performance information such as how long a conversion took | Improve speed and reliability |
| App version, device model, OS version | Version number, phone model, Android version | Find version- or device-specific problems |
| Approximate location (country, derived from IP address) | Country or region only, not precise location | Understand where the app is used |
| Random install identifier | An app-instance ID generated by the Firebase SDK for each installation | Count unique installs and retention |
B. Ads (free version). Google AdMob collects data to show and measure ads; see section 5.
C. Payments. Purchases are processed by Google Play. We do not receive or store your card or payment details. We learn only whether Pro is unlocked, through Google Play Billing.
We do not collect: your videos, the GIFs you create, your name, email address, or user ID, photos or files from your library beyond the video you pick, contacts, microphone audio, or precise location. The app has no account system and no background service.
4. Permissions
- Internet and network state: to show ads, send the statistics described above, and process the Pro purchase through Google Play. Video conversion does not need the internet.
- Google Play billing: for the Pro purchase.
- Advertising ID (AD_ID): requested for ads in the free version (section 5).
- The app does not use your microphone, location, or contacts, and does not run in the background.
Some Google libraries (ads, Play services) may add technical permissions to the app. The app does not use them for its own features.
5. Advertising (free version) and who processes your data
The free version of FitGIF shows ads (free with ads). Ads are served by Google AdMob (Google LLC). Pro, a one-time purchase through Google Play, removes ads permanently, and with Pro the app shows no ads.
- Where ads appear: a banner on the home screen, and a rewarded ad that you start yourself before a GIF is made. In the free version, you make a GIF by watching that short ad, or you choose Pro to make GIFs without ads. Your first conversions have no ad prompt, and if no ad is available the GIF is made without one. There are no ads while a conversion is running.
- What the ad service collects: to show and measure ads and to prevent fraud, Google's ad software in the app automatically collects and shares with Google: your IP address (which can indicate a general location), your Android advertising ID and other device identifiers, how you interact with ads and the app (such as taps and views), and diagnostic information about the ad software. The app does not give Google your videos or GIFs.
- Personalized or not: where you agree, ads may be personalized using your advertising ID. If you do not agree, or where consent is required and not given, ads are non-personalized. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of ad personalization, in your Android settings.
- European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland: before ads are requested, the app shows a consent form (Google's User Messaging Platform). You can accept, decline, or manage your choices, and change them later in the app's settings. No ads are requested before consent is settled.
- More about Google ads: How Google uses data for advertising, How Google uses data when you use partner apps, and Google My Ad Center. See also the AdMob ad technology providers page. Google acts under its own privacy policy for ad data.
We use Google LLC as our service provider (processor) for the following services:
| Service | What it handles | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Google Analytics for Firebase | The anonymous statistics in section 3A | Google-operated infrastructure (see Firebase privacy information below) |
| Google AdMob | Ads in the free version: advertising ID, IP address, ad interactions, diagnostics | Google-operated infrastructure |
| Google Play Billing | The Pro purchase | Google-operated infrastructure |
See Google's Privacy Policy and Firebase privacy information. Google Play processes payments under Google's own terms. We do not sell your data. The only data shared for advertising is what the ad service collects in the free version.
6. Consent and your choices
- Usage statistics in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland: statistics are off until you agree. The app works the same either way.
- Everywhere else: statistics are on by default and carry no name, email, or user ID. You can turn them off at any time in the app's settings.
- Ads: in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland the app asks for your consent before showing ads (section 5). Everywhere else, you can opt out of ad personalization in your Android settings, and you can remove ads with Pro.
- Change or withdraw your choice at any time in the app's settings. Withdrawing stops new statistics from being collected.
Region is decided from your phone's settings and network, not from precise location.
7. Children
FitGIF is not directed to children and is not designed for them. Please do not use it if you are under 13, or under the age required in your country. If you believe a child has used the app and data about that child has reached us, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Retention, deletion, and your rights
- We do not receive your videos or GIFs, so there is none of that data to delete. GIFs you saved are in Pictures/FitGIF on your phone; delete them in your gallery.
- No account: there is no account to delete. Uninstalling the app removes its data and cache from your phone.
- Anonymous statistics: event data is kept for 2 months. User-level analytics data (such as the random install identifier) is kept by Firebase for up to 14 months, and the period restarts when the app is used again. Because these statistics are not linked to a name, email, or user ID, they cannot be looked up by person.
- Advertising ID: you can reset or delete it in your Android settings (Settings > Privacy > Ads).
- Your rights: depending on where you live, you may have rights under local law, such as asking what data we hold. Contact us to use them. We process requests within 30 days.
- Purchases: Google Play keeps your purchase records under its own policy. Pro belongs to the Google Play account that bought it. Refunds follow Google Play's refund policy.
9. Security
Your videos stay on your phone. Statistics and ad requests are sent to Google over an encrypted connection. No method of storage or transfer is perfectly secure.
10. Changes
If we change this policy, we will post the new version on this page and update the revision date. If we start collecting anything new, we will say so here before the change applies.
